Dolly de Leon Gets Golden Globes Nod; Here’s How You Can Support Her

Filipina actress Dolly de Leon has been on a roll since she starred in the Cannes-winning film Triangle of Sadness. For her scene-stealing performance as the toilet cleaner Abigail in the Ruben Ostlund film, she received much praise from film critics all around the world. Now that it’s awards season, different film institutions are also acknowledging her amazing performance.

Prestigious nominations

Last night, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced its shortlist of nominations for the award ceremony on January 10, 2023. Dolly de Leon was nominated for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture, alongside big Hollywood names like Jamie Lee Curtis and Angela Bassett.

She is assumed to be the first Filipina to receive a nomination in the Golden Globe Awards. Before her, Darren Criss became the first Filipino-American actor to be nominated and awarded with a Golden Globe when he won Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series in 2019.

Aside from the Golden Globes, Dolly de Leon was also nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 27th Satellite Awards and for Best Supporting Actress and Best Breakthrough Performance at the 4th DiscussingFilm Critic Awards.

Already winning

Prior to the announcement of her Golden Globe nomination, Dolly de Leon has already won two awards: Best Supporting Performer in the Los Angeles Critics Awards, shared with Everything Everywhere All At Once’s Ke Huy Quan, and Breakthrough Performance Award in the 10th Middleburg Film Festival.

“Para sa ‘tin ‘to”

Following the Golden Globe announcement, de Leon issued a short statement about her wins and nominations:

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be recognized by critics who think outside the box and recognize the artistry of film-making. I’m proud to represent every individual who is struggling in their chosen industry — much like Abigail. Every single soul who’s watched the film would know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, go out and find out. It’s still in cinemas [in the Philippines]. PARA SA ‘TIN ‘TO.”

How can you support her?

There is no public voting criterion for these award nominations, so the best way to support Dolly de Leon is to watch the movie in theaters. Triangle of Sadness continues to be available in select theaters around the metro:
