RANKED: ‘Stranger Things’ Characters Most Likely to Die in Season 4 Finale

As the stakes get higher in Stranger Things, no character is safe. Even our favorites could die anytime and that keeps us awake at night as we count the days to Season 4 Volume 2 release on July 1. If it were up to us, every character will get to fight epic battles and end the season safe and sound in Hawkins. But who knows what the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, have in mind? The cast hinting at “deaths coming” and “carnage” for Volume 2 doesn’t help with the anxiety either. But even though it’s an uncomfortable conversation since we’re emotionally attached to these characters at this point, we have to talk about who’s most likely to die this season.

#8 Dr. Martin Brenner

Dr. Brenner better not expect a Happy Father’s Day card from any of his “test subjects.” He is a brilliant man who knows how to make kids like Eleven harness their powers but the end shouldn’t justify the means. What can you expect from the government’s senior research scientists, right? Anyway, he’s a character most likely to die in Season 4 when Eleven finally gets back the full extent of her powers and he isn’t needed anymore. Our guess is that Vecna will get to this guy but who knows? After all, “Ang masamang damo, mahirap mamatay.”

#7 Jason Carver

As a *~society~*, we might not agree on many things, but I think I speak for everyone when I say Jason Carver could choke. He is the stereotypical preppy athlete bully every fictional American high school has. Jason’s even worse since he didn’t stop at shoving people in hallways, he set out to find Eddie Munson and stop at nothing short of murder to “avenge” his girlfriend Chrissy Cunningham. Jason doesn’t understand the threat Hawkins is in so he creates theories (the Hellfire Club is a cult?!) to explain supernatural things he witnessed. Ergo, if Jason gets written off, no tears for him.

#6 Jim Hopper

NGL, tears were shed during Stranger Things Season 3 finale when they made it look like Hopper perished in the Russian lab explosion. At the hands of Joyce Byers, no less! We’re still salty that the Duffer brothers put us through that rollercoaster of emotions, especially since we had to wait 3 years for the fourth season. Now that Hopper is alive and, uh, struggling, he could still die any time. We’re thankful he survived the Russians and their crazy Demogorgon pet but the story’s not over yet. Our only request is we see him and Eleven reunited before the bloodbath begins.

#5 Murray Bauman

His arms might be like iron and his legs might be like spears, but Murray is as human as you or me. We’re surprised he made it this far, what with all the crazy adventures he has with Joyce and Hopper. But making it this far means high stakes, he could die at any given notice. Remember Joyce’s boyfriend in Season 2? Yeah, the sweet guy we all thought would live? He was mauled by Demodogs and we’ve since learned never to hold characters too close to our hearts.

#4 Eddie Munson

We weren’t sure about Eddie at first, but after that forest scene where he showed us his soft side with Chrissy Cunningham, we were in love. Eddie might be a rock n’ roll rebel stereotype but he has a heart of gold. Although he would scream and whine, he would fight bravely with the rest of the gang and we respect that. The Hellfire Club needs its leader but we also know Eddie isn’t as equipped to fight off demons in the Upside Down so him d-wording anytime is a possibility #SaveEddieMunson!

#3 Robin Buckley

We’ve been smitten by Robin Buckley since she appeared wearing that sailor hat in Season 3. This season, she cemented her position in our hearts. She’s loud, she babbles when she’s nervous, she’s brave, she’s a true friend — what more could you ask for. But we admit that she’s one of the characters most likely to die. In Season 3, Robin consoled a beat-up Steve that they will get out of the Russian lab alive. In contrast, the trailer for the Season 4 finale showed her losing hope that they’ll survive this one. WE’RE ALREADY CRYING.

#2 Steve Harrington

We hate to put Steve even within 10 feet of this list. We would gladly run up that hill and make a deal with God to please save him but the reality is he’s in actual danger. Volume 1 showed Steve walking through the Upside Down with bites from Demobats and it doesn’t look promising. What if, as Robin feared, these otherworldly creatures carried otherworldly rabies that can’t be healed? Steve’s clothed appearance in the trailer for the season finale hints that he’s still actively fighting alongside the gang. However, we shouldn’t let our guards down. And by not “letting our guards down,” we mean tweeting at the official Stranger Things account to #SaveSteve.

Look here Duffer brothers and Netflix executives, kill Steve “The Babysitter” Harrington off and you lose whatever subscribers you’ve got left on the platform. The Internet is deathly serious.

#1 All of them

What if, in a bizarre twist of events, Hawkins does get nuked by the Russians like the tweet above theorizes? Then everyone will die together and we don’t have to worry about mourning a single character. They go through hardships and trials together, they experience happiness together, and, ultimately, they flee from this world in style — together. That would be an ideal ending. Just don’t. Touch. Steve. Harrington.

Stranger Things Seasons 1 – 4 Volume 1 is available on Netflix now. Season 4 Volume 2 will premiere on July 1, 2022.
