Netizens Welcome the UAAP Cheerdance Competition Back With Memes

After three long years, the UAAP Cheerdance Competition (CDC) is finally back! It was held yesterday, May 22 with all eight competing universities in attendance — but there were some tweaks to the usual UAAP CDC we know. Routines were cut from five minutes to only three, drummers were not allowed to be in the venue, and only fifteen members were allowed to perform. Such changes were for the safety of the fans and pep squads alike, according to the UAAP committee. Still, despite these changes, passionate fans eagerly tuned in to the UAAP CDC, and they’ve got a lot of commentary and memes to share with the internet.

Surprises

The schools definitely got the expected rankings shuffled around. On the heels of a two-peat win, National University was a favorite for this year’s championship and everyone was expecting a comeback for the University of the Philippines or the University of Santo Tomas. But schools surprised one another with their performances.

As they say, it’s not over ‘til it’s over.

The alleged reactions

Masyado niyo namang ginalingan!

Nakisali din ang isa pa!

We did it, fam.

New era

Is this the new era of a new triumvirate in the UAAP CDC?

This netizen has a request for UP Pep Squad: a near-impossible Tiktok routine featuring songs from Korean girl group Twice.

Still a champion

It’s okay, UP. You still bagged the men’s basketball championship.

Throwback

To this iconic UP performance in 2015.

Simps for Doc Tricia bringing this back. She isn’t even from NU, but her energy for this vibe check is off the charts.

Congrats, La Salle

De La Salle University placed last in the 2018 and 2019 competitions. They broke that streak and rose to 7th place this year, leaving Ateneo de Manila University in 8th.

Nakaahon rin sa wakas?!

Congratulations are deserved.

Hearts broken.

Cheers to all teams

After three years without the CDC, viewers are just thankful for its return and for the athletes performing these dangerous stunts — and maybe also praying for better rules, coverage, and prizes in future competitions.
